SEPTEMBER 2025 MEETING MINUTES

Jean Craig, President, called the meeting to order at 06:30 PM with 26 members and 2 guests in attendance.

Business / Announcements:

·      The calendar was reviewed: 

o   The next monthly meeting is October 28 with Kerry Bevers presenting on natural dying.

o   The next Sew Day is October 18 at Five Eighth Seams. The November Sew Day has been canceled due to a location schedule conflict.

o   The annual election of officers will occur at the November 11 meeting. The program for the meeting is “Making Large Fabric Bows” by Angie Tirpak.

·      Dates (previously) provided by Linda Ambrose:

o   Coastal Carolina Fair 10/30 - 11/9/25; quilt intake is 10/18 - 10/19 and pickup is 11/10. 

o   Cobblestone Quilters Show is Fri-Sun, Mar 20-22, 2026 at the Trident Tech Convention Center. Quilt intake is Mar 16. For more info, visit the website at: https://cobblestonequilters.com/cobblestone-2026-celebration-of-quilts-fiber-arts-show/

Committee Updates:

·      Outreach: Many members displayed their charity quilts.

·      Programs: Note the above meeting dates and programs, also included in the online calendar.

·      Challenges: 

o   The jellyroll quilts were displayed. All were asked to bring them back next month, as well as additional items completed by members, to close out this challenge.

o   Next month’s challenge will be a color challenge presented by Rose Bernard and Kim McPeake. Each participant will receive 3 paint chip colors, and the 3 colors have to be used in the quilt. The quilts are due at the January meeting.

·      Christmas Stockings: stockings are due by the Dec 7 Christmas party. 

·      Sew Days: For the months of Oct 2025 and Jan 2026, participants may continue to sew a raw edge applique piece using flowers as the design topic. Participation in this project is optional, and members can attend Sew Day and work on their own projects. 

 

Program:  Cathy Beemer presented “Entering Quilts in Shows.”

·      Cathy distributed Reasons to Enter a Quilt Show, Timeline for Entering a Quilt Show, as well as the instructions, application, and categories for entering the Cobblestone 2026 quilt show.  Cathy shared Judging Criteria: What Judges Look For and stated that the “complexity of design in the quilt and degree of difficulty separate the winners.”

AUGUST 2025 MEETING MINUTES

CMQG Meeting Minutes, August 26, 2025 

Jean Craig, President, called the meeting to order at 06:26 PM with 32 members and 2 guests in attendance.

Business / Announcements:

·      The calendar was reviewed: 

o   The next monthly meeting is September 23 with a presentation by Cathy Beemer on entering quilt shows.

o   The next Sew Day is September 20.

·      Dates (previously) provided by Linda Ambrose:

o   Coastal Carolina Fair 10/30 - 11/9/25; quilt intake is 10/18 - 10/19 and pickup is 11/10. Linda seeks volunteers to serve at the quilt table during the fair; please see Linda for more info.

o   Cobblestone Quilters Show is Fri-Sun, Mar 20-22, 2026 at the Trident Tech Convention Center. Quilt intake is Mar 16. There are 2 categories for modern quilts, Solo and Duet. o   Quilters of SC retreat is Oct 24-26, 2026 in Myrtle Beach. Visit https://www.quiltersofsc.org/ for more info. The Spring Meeting will be held in March 2026. 

Committee Updates:

·      Outreach: Kate Weston collected 5 quilts and several pillowcases. Kate brought 2 kits to distribute. Reminder that the jelly roll charity quilts are due next month. 

·      Programs: No update.

·      Challenges: The quilts from the jelly roll strip challenge are due at the next meeting.

·      Christmas Stockings: no update; stockings are due by the Dec 7 Christmas party. 

·      Sew Days: For the months of Sept 2025, Oct 2025, and Jan 2026, the proposed project is to sew a raw edge applique piece using flowers as the design topic. The supply list will soon be distributed to all before the first Sew Day. Participation in this project is optional, and members can attend Sew Day and work on their own projects.

JULY 2025 MEETING MINUTES

Jean Craig, President, called the meeting to order at 6:32 PM with 24 members in attendance.

Business / Announcements:

·      The August 26 meeting will be available via Zoom for the Color Theory program.

·      The next Sew Day is August 16.

·      Dates provided by Linda Ambrose; 

o   Coastal Carolina Fair 10/30 - 11/9/25; quilt intake is 10/18 - 10/19 and pickup is 11/10. 

o   Tunnel to Towers Foundation: the opening date is to be determined and may be in Jan or Feb. To date, there are 40 completed quilts, 10 being quilted, and more in progress. The total number needed is 100. The quilt size should be 60” x 65".

·      QuiltFest Jacksonville is being held Sept 19-21, 2025.

·      Irene posted 2 free items, please see her if interested.

Committee Updates:

·      Outreach: Kate Weston collected 4 pillowcases and several quilts. Kate offered some kits and additional fabric to be used for donated quilts. In total, she has collected 9 tote bags, 28 pillowcases, and 24 quilts. The goal is 44 quilts by November.

·      Programs: The August 26 program is Color Theory by Charles Cameron.

·      Challenges: The 2.5” strips were distributed by Kim McPeake and Rick Sanchez for members to make quilts and tote bags.  They requested that no one make a jellyroll race quilt; be creative. If requested, Kim and Rick (and others) will quilt the pieced tops, but you are asked to supply the batting. Kate has batting if needed. 

·      Christmas Stockings; Susan Brandt circulated a signup sheet and provided guidelines to ensure the full stockings are sturdy enough to hold the items. Please line or line/quilt the stockings. The stockings are due by the Dec 7 Christmas party. All who participate will be entered into a drawing for prizes.

·      Sew Days: Cathy Beemer suggested that members work toward a specific project for the next 3 months (Aug/Sept/Oct). Susan Brandt shared a raw edge applique sample, such as used in Laura Heine collages. Steam-A-Seam is used to fuse fabric to the collage background.  The proposed subject for this project is flowers. Cathy and Susan will distribute a supply list for members to prepare for the first Sew Day on August 16. Participation in this project is optional; members can attend Sew Day and work on their own projects. 

·      Quilt Camp: Phoebe has been reaching out to attendees for the September event.

 

Program:  Molly presented “Christmas in July.”  She made and demonstrated handmade gift ideas for a “working person,” a teenager, a kitchen gift, a spa gift, and a bookworm. Items included a lanyard pen holder, glasses case, sunglass case, money holder, gift card holder, mug rug, towel holder, trivet, casserole carrier, cloth-covered basket, makeup remover cloths, scrunchies, neck heated cloth filled with rice, sleeping mask, ice cream cozy, bookstand, bookmark, book cover, ornaments, and more. 

Seven members shared their quilts at Show and Tell. 













The meeting adjourned at 7:56 pm.
